Lucky Us!

A very kind friend was clearing out her toy cupboard last week and invited us to take what we liked! Thank you so much, Fiona! Here are a few things we snaffled:

Vintage Fisher Price Mini Van - See their friendly faces?

Works a treat lulling Saskia to sleep
1960s Toy Zither - it belonged to Fiona when she was a child!
I love the design on the box

And here's a sweet clock I found at the Salvos in Abbotsford a couple of weeks ago:

Gorgeous hyacinth from my garden

Have a lovely weekend. x

YELLOM

Well H-yellow there.

Ok, so there's no hiding the fact that it's an upside down 'M'.

I've noticed that recently the colour yellow has been leaping out at me. It's a rather shouty colour as it is, but I think perhaps its insistence may be due to the imminent arrival of spring - the scent of wattle is wafting on the breeze and the daffodils are starting to poke out their wee sunny heads. Yellow flowery things.

Here are some of my yellow things:

Picked up at garage sale on the weekend - for the
displayingment of succulents
Plastic flowers from Camberwell markets
Toy Car
Set of cannisters from Vinnies in Kew
Yellow things
We found this lamp in the hard rubbish - I KNOW!
Yellow fun things
More fun things & some things that make yellow
Sweet tin wastepaper basket from Holy Trinity ope shope in Kew

Some yellow things to read
Yellow Submarine-themed invites for Zig's 7th birthday party

Gratuitous baby shot (note yellow cushion)
And of course, the much neglected Project Yellow Box. For dedicated and diligent Project Yellow Boxing have a look at some of Pip's work here and here.

I'm off to buy a big bunch of daffodils.

Yellow!

Project Yellow Box - Orange Pork Chops

Another AWW Recipe Card Library venture - well, the first; I'm not sure toffees really count?
I thought I'd go for the Orange Pork Chops (card D15 in the 'Exciting Ways With Lamb, Pork & Veal category). It was exciting. I love the category titles.

A few ingredients

That lovely Japanese stoneware casserole dish is a recent acquisition from the Salvos in Balwyn. I didn't use it for this dish but thought it would look nice in a photo. And I think this may have been the first time I've cooked with sherry. I just might start having a wee tipple in the afternoons like someone else's Nana used to. A single drop of alcohol never passed my Nana's lips. Apparently.

Orange Pork Chops, Mash & Steamed Vegies
And gosh, food styling is harder than you'd think. I'll get better. I'm not sure if the lovely meal I cooked this evening looks as appetising as it tasted. Although the husbandido described it as 'odd' I quite liked it - I don't know what his mother was cooking in 1981. Ziggy had the pork chop sans l'orange. He loved it!

This is fun. Thanks Pip! What next?

This summer, I will be mostly wearing...these:

How summery, how lovely. I would like a pair of red ones, please.

via Babyology

Saltwater Sandals are available in Australia - excellent!

Do you like The Fast Show? It is rather hilarious.

Conflicted - Matt and Kim 'Daylight'

I love this song - it was my theme tune when Saskia first arrived as I just didn't 'pick up the phone'. I challenge you to not start tapping your feet.

The energy and joy of this young duo is infectious. Bordering on irritating. I feel old.

Mila's Daydreams

I absolutely love this gorgeous blog! Such a wonderful idea. 'Bookworm' is my favourite so far. Such a sweepy little baby. My daughter is around the same age and, well, for many reasons, I couldn't do what Adele Enersen does.

Warm Winter's Day

Yesterday I took a moment to be grateful. You know, for just being alive. My baby was sleeping in her pram, parked under a stunning flowering gum, my son was playing happily in the park glad to have a pupil free day and the sun was shining - yes, wasn't it a gorgeous day yesterday in Melbourne?

And look at what we scored from the Vinnies in Kew:

A retro desk calendar for son - a bit Mad Men, no?

Vintage sheet for baby's cot.

Play mat for weedle bebby gell.

And a photo album still in its plastic wrapping. To be used for romantic photos only.

Dramatic Dinner Parties 'She served WHAT?!'

Well, my first attempt at the AWW toffees was a failure - burnt. But, have a look at these:

I sprinkled a few with sesame seeds - a healthy option.

This is going to be fun! I think I may attempt a dish from the 'Dramatic Dinner Parties' section.

Perhaps I'll shock my guests with Avocado With Crab (she didn't!?), or Cream of Cauliflower Soup (oh my lord!), or peut etre (oui, because not only can I be dramatic, but I am also tres sophisticated) herbed potatoes - oh the drama! I just love the concept of Dramatic Dinner Parties, although I suspect some dinner parties during the 70s were dramatic for entirely other reasons. Now where are my keys?

Project Yellow Box

Ok, so I've been inspired to be a bit more diligent about doing something with this blog - actually writing something now and again - by Pip's Project Yellow Box. (Thanks Pip! I've needed a wee bit of encouragement.) I found a complete Australian Women's Weekly Recipe Card Library in the hard rubbish a few years ago. Some of the cards were still in their plastic wrapping and some were a bit bendy, having been left in the rain. I've only had a cursory flick through them since, but will now try and cook along with Pip and others!

First up are toffees! Excellent! If your mother could make stickjaws, well then, you were the coolest kid at the circa 1980 school fete. I think I want to be that mother, so I'll aim for the stretchy gooey kind - not so harsh on the teeth perhaps? Because, let's face it - just pure sugar and water? Can't be good. But fun? Yes.

The homemade confectionary cards were virginal - look at some of the confectionary (I'm feeling all sugar rushy just looking at them):

'Coconut Health Bars'

Not only will this be a fun project as I discover new recipes (and the fabulous images), but we'll get to eat some stuff too!

Here's my gorgeous daughter - she's 11 weeks old today! I have a beautiful about-to-turn-7-year- old boy too!!

I'm a bit of a novice blogger, but I'll only get better, you just see.
