My perfect life

I'm jumping on the Pip and Katie bandwagon.

Husbandido brought me tea in bed.
My hair is flecked with grey and needs some attention.
I'm feeling relaxed about Christmas presents as I have found some most excellent things at the ope shopes recently. Like this:

And these:

And this:

Some cards for Ziggy to hand out to his friends:

And all the vintagey Christmas stuff I've seen online and in the ope shopes has restored Christmas' charm for me. See my candles?

Nearly Headless Choirboy or just 'coy'

And the creepy out-of-tune Santa pulling thing?

My garden has been neglected all year, but still kindly rewards us.
No fights in my genteel suburb thank you very much - all extremely polite and repressed.
One and a half days left of school and nary an end-of-term meltdown to be seen. Me on the other hand...
There's a small baby sleeping in my bed.
What is this 'paid' thing you speak of?
I'm listening to Radio National.
I've had two breakfasts! Toast at 8am and then raisin toast at 9.30.
I have blue nail polish on my toes. (I know - I'm still groovy, though it's a cheap one and I think my toenails may be disintegrating underneath the bluetiful gunk.)
We don't keep chickens but we will be eating one tonight.
I used to cover my school books in wallpaper. So in retrospect, vintage wallpaper.
I've been craving my first boyfriend's mother's tomato pasta sauce for over twenty years now and have never been able to find its match. Not even in Italy.
I just bought my first pair of clogs! Ugglebuggleboobleboos. It's early days but I have feelings for them:

And even though I was mightily impressed every Friday by Lillabilly's genius, I packed the same lunch for Ziggy every day, all year. With minor variations. He has seemed fine about it.
We're heading to Jan Juc after Christmas and then perhaps Hobart and Bruny Island.
I'm still loving Frankie's Spaces, though only in small doses as I tend to collapse in a heap on the floor in a fit of envy.
I'm liking the sound and look of Boardwalk Empire. Here's hoping for some decent female characters.

I'm about to start crocheting the Christmas turkey.

How's your perfect life?

And I can't deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!*

As I was changing bubba this morning I was reminded of how, as a little girl, I used to wear a tea towel on my head and pretend I was a nun. I think the sanctimony appealed to me. As I was pulling Saskia's singlet off over her head she looked a bit like the wimpley woman above.

Well, sort of like that. I have tried to recreate that moment for you:

She may look like she was being compliant, but she was really having nun of it. She thought I was being ridiculous.

I think my desire to be a nun had a lot to do with this show:

Certainly nothing to do with most of the nuns I knew as a child. Sister Bertrille could fly! Now that's ridiculous. I'd love to watch this show now and deconstruct it.

Do all Catholic schoolgirls have the desire to become a nun at some point?

Have you noticed that nuns have beautiful skin?

*I can't seem to find that Sally Field Oscar acceptance speech. Read this or this if you think this post title suggests I am a wee bit conceited.

Easy rubbish

This desk chair was left, with a pile of other hard rubbish-like items, out the front of a house around the corner the other day. I nabbed it. Husbandido thinks its tan vinylness is ugly. I like it.

And I found this clock a while ago in the hard rubbish and cleaned it up yesterday. It's kinda cool, non?

Have a look over at Sophie's for more thrifty finds.

If you haven't already seen this...

We're building one of these in the lounge room.

These guys - Ok Go -  make excellent videos. I like the song too.

Babies, bananas and Beethoven

image via

We had mashed bananaNAH this morning - whoah, is that a messy business? Why, yes, it sure is.

Our nomenclaturisationing around this house is often underscored by the musics. For example, a banana is known as a bananaNAH:

Would you have thought mashed bananaNAH could be so dramatic?

(I know I'm not the first mother to come up with this but we have to entertain ourselves, don't we?)

You may find this film interesting if you are of an anthropological bent:

Did you get all teary? Babies, huh?

What Ho!

It's time to start coming over all Christmassy, so I am going to bury my head in a book for a few days. Maybe even for a few weeks.

I'm about to embark upon a journey into the land of P. G. Wodehouse, a land until now (the festive season) unknown by moi. But highly recommended by everyone else in the whole wide world (see below).

Would you like to join in? MMMC has said she will, but then, she seems capable of doing a squillion things at once - well, according to her blog she seems capable of doing a squillion things at once... Do we believe her?

If you need to escape the Christmas craziness and can spare the time, come join us. Or if you're familiar with Jeeves and Wooster you can just lord it over us and join in the post-reading analysisisis.

Toodle pip!
