Sleep Little Birdy

image via

I've been blognoring this space a wee bit of late. I apologise, it's just that I seem to have lost my spark over the last few weeks. Bit stressed, still no word from the Ministry of Magic, but we're taking that in itself as a bad sign. So we may have to close the door on our spicy future. It's closed, but not locked. We're feeling quite deflated. We might have news after the budget.

But... I have been ope shopeing, of course.

A few things:

Two vintagey towels de tea.

A pair of vintage Kerr's curtains.

Set of Sesame Street cot sheets.

A sweet Jacadie outfit. It's too small for Saskia but we'll admire it for a while then pass it on.

A patchwork leather bag - it smells delicious.

This is Sassykah's stroller blanky. We receive a lot of comments. The stroller and I.

And a nest of tables for this little birdy.

#MICF

Ziggy and I have just returned from seeing the latest show from the two lovely gentlemen above known as The List Operators.  This is the third year we've seen them. Their current show, 'The List Operators for Kids Do Compooters: Wig-i-pedia', has been one of the best shows I've seen during the last few weeks at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. And I've seen quite a few. (I like comedy. No - you don't.)

Actually, they are one of the best acts I've seen over the last few years really.

These two are clever, witty and farty. And like most clever comic persons, the off-the-cuff moments are the best. And I like the way they spell.

This information is really not all that helpful, I know, considering the festival ends tomorrow, but you'll know for next time. And you'll be seeing more of Matt and Richard in the future, I'm sure. So you can nod knowingly. My pleasure.

Cashmere if you can

For the last five years or so, once the weather starts to turn cool, I've been hitting US evilbay for cashmere. People stateside are clearing out their winter closets and no one gamboling about in the Spring sunshine is interested in cashmere, so the bargains are there for the taking.

This sweet little cardigan for Saskia arrived today and cost me the grand total of $20 (plus postage). Actually I have only paid over $40 for cashmere once or twice.

I 'win' for me, I 'win' for the husbandido, I 'win' for friends (when things don't fit me) and now I 'win' for the baby girl. Zig runs a bit hot and is happy in t-shirts all year round, so no cashmere for him.

Another wonderful thing about this ingenious strategy of mine (yes, I KNOW! You're welcome!) is that I don't really worry about treating my soft friends with the love and care cashmere generally demands - wrapping it tissue paper in its own little box, washing it in shampoo and singing it lullabies. I wear it in the garden, cleaning the house and last winter my lovely pullovers were often covered in baby vomit. Now that's luxurious.

I now have enough holey cashmere sweaterrrrs that I'm considering sewing a scarf or small throw for the cat. Pushka in a pashmina.

There really is nothing warmer or lighter than cashmere.

You 'win'. Unless of course you already do...

Keeping the doctor away

My lovely friend, Sarah, introduced me to some new ope shopes last week. (In the Nunawading and Box Hill precincts.) And wowsee!

Was I happy? You're probably not quite sure...

Behold: A tray to serendipitously match this one for the 'sticking trays on the wall' art project.

A couple of stoneware bowls (I'm not sure my shelves can take the accumulating weight); a rag rug for the baffroom and a gorgeous tile cheese board:

Some vintage cards; an old biscuit tin for storing old biscuits; a book for Zig; a vintage Fisher Price Smiley Apple (missing some of her stalk but she's still smiling) and an absolutely stunning handmade crocheted tablecloth:

My MIL says the pattern is 'pineapple'. So a bit of a fruit-themed thrift. Say that really fast.

I win!!

This arrived recently from the lovely MMMC:

I just love how she wrapped my giveaway win in pattern paper. (Is that what it's called?) She's clever, non?

Here's where the gorgeous teak apple now lives:

And the dear little deer now habitates on top of the peeahno:

Thank you Make Mine Mid-Century!! I like your ope shopeing style. Where do find your inspiration?
